It’s seemingly been in the works forever, but Xolo — the long-awaited taqueria from Dona Savitsky and Thomas Schnetz of Dona Tomas and Flora — opens today. Busy times for Oakland.

Located next door to Flora and across the street from the Fox Theater, Xolo mirrors Dona Tomas in its Mexican heritage, but unlike the Telegraph Avenue mainstay, Xolo is a quick service operation. There are a few tables and a small patio involved, but it’s a taqueria.

On the opening menu (click here to view) are tacos ($2.75 each), burritos, “danger dogs” (bacon wrapped hot dogs), salads, pozole, a Fri/Sat special of birria, and for dessert, mini churros dubbed “churritos.”

Xolo opens at noon today; going forward, initial hours will be Monday through Thursday from 11am to 11pm, and Friday and Saturday from 11am to 12am.

Xolo: 1916 Telegraph Avenue, near 19th; (510) 986-0151 or xolotaqueria.com
